The Colombo YMBA launched this project on 01st November 2021 to provide English Education (via zoom) for young Bhikkus studying in Pirivenas with the assistance from State Ministry of Dhamma Schools, Bikkhu Education, Pirivenas & Buddhist Universities. This project which is in line with the Association’s objective ‘Propagation of Buddhism’, will greatly assist Bhikkus to conduct ‘Dhamma deshana’ in English both locally and overseas. This project will also assist them to further their higher education and enhance their knowledge in many fields.
As the first phase of the project, English classes (via zoom) commenced for Bhikkus studying in ‘Grade 5’ (equivalent to GCE - O/L) in the Western and ‘Uva’ provinces. Four Teachers from Aquinas College of Higher Studies have been engaged by the Association for conducting the English classes. Initially around 700 student Bhikkus studying in 229 Pirivenas will benefit from this programme.
The second stage of the above project was initiated on 07th March 2022, with zoom classes being conducted for Piriven Bhikkus and Bhikkunis of Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. This project will now facilitate the participants from all over the island (800 Privenas in all 9 provinces) to connect via zoom.
