The Colombo YMBA has published a series of Text Books in six levels titled ‘Guide to the study of Theravada Buddhism’ primarily intended to provide the necessary study material, in the form of comprehensive manuals, to students of English medium Dhamma Schools, Study Centers and private candidates who prepare to sit the English medium Dhamma Examinations conducted by the Colombo YMBA.
The series comprises six text books intended to cover the syllabuses prescribed for the six levels of the Dhamma Examination scheme. The contents of the text books are summarized below.

Guide to the study of the Theravada Buddhism for Advance Diploma LevelThis book consists two parts namely Dhamma section and abhidhamma section. Part 1 Dhamma Section commences with the introduction of the Social, Religious and Political back ground of India during the sixth centaury B. C. Then the author explains vividly on important sections of the teaching of Buddha such as Four Noble Truths, Law of Dependent Origination, Thilakkana and Buddhist Vinaya. Then it describes the ritual performances in Buddhism and Buddhist Social Economics and Social Philosophy . Last chapters of this section have some important Suttas like Ariya pariyesana Sutta. Part 11 of the book is based on Abhidhamma. After the introduction it gives contents of the seven books on Abhidhamma. Chapter three describes Matika in Dhamma Sangani very clearly in simple style. It follows the description of other books in Abhidhamma Pitaka. The last lesson explains the Paticca Samuppada and Patthana. Palibhashavataranaya
Palibhashavataranaya was written by Venerable Polwatte Buddhadatta Mahanayaka Thero of Ambalangoda on the request of late Mr. P. De. S. Kularathne former Principal of Ananda College Colombo. The author was one of the most prominent scholars. The first publication was in 1923 and the present publication done by the Colombo YMBA consists of three volumes.
Palibhashavataranaya Volume - (1)These books were compiled in Sinhala to teach pali grammar and composition to the beginners. Volume I commence with pali Alphabet and followed by gender, case and number declension of nouns are also explained in the book. Verbs and their conjugation in three tenses are shown here including basic grammatical rules. Each lesson is followed by exercises of translations from Pali to Sinhala and Sinhala to Pali. Palibhashavataranaya Volume - (111)The Volume 111 published in 1930 for the first time. Special language terms and complexes in pali language are introduced in this book. This consists of chapters.
