A Stage for Young Talent

Initiated in 1981, the Inter-School English Drama Contest was created to provide students from leading schools in Colombo and the outstations a platform to express Buddhist values through the dramatic arts.

This competition encourages students to explore Jataka stories, historical Buddhist events, and moral themes, translating them into compelling theatrical performances. It fosters creativity, teamwork, and fluency in the English language while instilling a deep appreciation for Buddhist culture.

Prestigious Awards

Winners are awarded the coveted Sir Cyril de Zoysa Challenge Trophy for the Best Drama, along with awards for Best Actor/Actress and Best Script.

Format

  • Duration: 20 - 30 Minutes
  • Cast Size: Minimum 5, Maximum 15
  • Language: English Only
  • Live music/effects permitted

  • Direction & Production (20%)
  • Overall Impact (20%)
