Gamini Matha Elders Home

Providing protection, care, and dignity for 50 destitute elders in their twilight years.

Our Mission

A Sanctuary for the Elderly

Established by the late Mrs. H.M. Gunasekera, the Gamini Matha Home for Elders was taken over by the Colombo YMBA in 1970. Located at No. 117, Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Colombo 2, it adheres strictly to the guidance of the Social Services Department.

Currently, the home provides shelter to 50 elderly males over the age of 60. We ensure they spend their twilight years with full protection, medical care, and spiritual peace.

Free of Charge

All basic facilities including food, clothing, accommodation, and medicine are provided absolutely free to all residents.

Comprehensive care for physical and spiritual well-being.

Nutritious Meals

Menus prepared by a qualified dietician. Cooked meals and dry rations provided by the home and generous donors.

Medical Care

Regular medical clinics are held. Transport and facilities are provided to consult doctors whenever required.

Spiritual Life

Facilities for Buddhist observances. Religious programs are conducted by Buddhist priests regularly.

Recreation

TV, newspapers, and indoor games (Carrom, Chess). Annual pilgrimages and the 'Vintage Car Rally' in October.

How to Get Admission

Submit Application

Obtain the application form from the Home and fill it duly.

Required Documents

• Grama Niladhari Certificate (Proof of Residence)
• Medical Officer's Certificate (Confirming freedom from chronic/infectious diseases)

Interview & Admission

A brief interview by the Management Committee. If suitable, the elder is admitted. A guardian must accompany the elder for admission.

How You Can Help

The YMBA spends a considerable amount to maintain this facility. You are welcome to donate meals, cash, or general funds. All donations to the Colombo YMBA (an Approved Charity) are tax-exempt.

Visit Us

You are welcome to visit and spend a few minutes with the Elders. Your presence brings them joy, regardless of whether you provide a meal.
